By my count, in this one album she tackles: child abuse (\u201cWhat\u2019s the Matter Here?\u201d), illiteracy (\u201cCherry Tree\u201d), substance abuse (\u201cDon\u2019t Talk\u201d), militarism (\u201cGun Shy\u201d), environmental abuse (\u201cA Campfire Song\u201d) and poverty (I think) (\u201cCity of Angels\u201d). What\u2019s left is diamond-like in its compact greatness, and I don\u2019t have to listen to Merchant\u2019s undergraduate public policy musings.<\/p>

The Trinity Session<\/em>, Cowboy Junkies: Perfect record, perfectly sequenced. Something I found out in college: Start slowly sipping whiskey with the first track, \u201cMining for Gold\u201d, and by the last track you will achieve the ideal state of Hank-Williams-style drunken melancholia.<\/p>

Hootenany<\/em>, The Replacements: The title track, \u201cBuck Hill\u201d and \u201cLovelines\u201d are such obvious filler, I\u2019m only doing what should have been done in 1983. It\u2019s a little scary cutting Paul Westerberg songs. He seems like the kind of guy who might track me down and punch me in the mouth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
