Auch wenn sein musikalischer Ansatz und sein Instrumentarium nicht der Norm entsprechen, kommen am Ende doch immer recht normale Songs plus Jam-Einlagen raus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Egal ob Dobro, Slide Guitar oder Banjo — seine Musik erinnert immer ein bisschen an eine World-Music-Variante aus Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers und Jack Johnson. Daf\u00fcr groovt er mehr und wer ihn live gesehen hat, kann (und will) sich nur schwerlich dagegenstemmen. Insofern ist „Grand National\u201c ein gro\u00dfartig rhythmisches Album, das bei „Gov Did Nothin’\u201c 12 Musikern die M\u00f6glichkeit gibt, sich ekstatisch auszutoben, w\u00e4hrend eine noch gr\u00f6\u00dfere Mannschaft „Caroline“ zum kollektiven Dahinschmelzen verhilft. Aber auch simple Folk-St\u00fccke wie „Losing You“ oder tighte Groove-Rocker („Fire In The Sky“) funktionieren und zeigen das Trio von seiner besten Seite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John Butler hat eine klare Botschaft und spielt dabei so locker aus der H\u00fcfte, dass man gerne vergisst, dass seine Alben gr\u00f6\u00dfer scheinen als sie sind. Aber besser als alles vom sanften \u00d6ko-Surfer ist „Grand National\u201c allemal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
